Discipline: Suspensions fell by 72.5% last year to a historic low
Physical Setting: Enjoying lush campus grounds and located slightly north of Ventura Boulevard in the southwest San Fernando Valley, WHA has one of the highest ratios of campus open space to number of students in the LAUSD. Congratulations to WHA for being a winner of the District One Campus Beautiful Award in 2008. Woodland Hills Community Garden is located on campus.
MKA Project: LAUSD District One brought MKA on board with WHA (formerly Parkman MS) for the 2006/07 school year to work with the school’s principal, Al Weiner, on developing a Community Outreach Program (with Taft HS), Corporate Donor Program, fund raising and forming a non-profit foundation. Working with this school was a pleasure as the staff and administration think “outside the box” making the necessary changes and implementation of innovations in its curriculum and outreach efforts with ease. This small neighborhood school is an "MKA School to Watch".
WHA’s Philosophy
"Your student's academic life is not a game of chance. At Woodland Hills Academy we believe that we have an obligation to understand your child's personal needs and to challenge him/her by meeting these needs intellectually, socially, and personally. We believe that our school is high performing and that means we are academically excellent, developmentally responsive, and socially equitable. By providing your child with a variety of structured experiences in which your child is actively engaged, we believe that we will be able to address your child's needs and prepare them for success in their academic career and in life."
